I just spent a couple of days attending meetings at the Sheraton Skyline Hotel at Heathrow. Thw airplane model store in the hotel lobby caught my eye. However I was struck by two things:
a) How rude the staff were (there were two middle aged guys) and were the least bit interested in showing me anything. When I asked a question to one guy, he just shrugged and pointed to the other guy. The other guy just answered in one or two words and did not even attempt to get off his chair. Kinda funny if it were not for point b below...
b) I never ever saw any other (potential) customer walk in there.
I wonder how those guys stay in business and pay the rent for the store space. Do they run a large mail order catalog business?
Anyone else have similar experience with these bozos?

I confirm been there a month ago and they are unbelievably rude! If it wasn't for the fact that they r the only herpa resaller in London i would not go there!

I've visited the aforementioned establishment on many occasions and have to agree with both posters. Whilst the customer service skills of the 2 gentlemen in question do leave a lot to be desired, their array of stock is amazing considering the size of the place.

I have purchased a lot of models from them over the past year through their mail order system. Found it very good but there are cheaper retailers out there.

Keep in mind you can buy models at the store next to the Renaissance and the Renaissance gift shop has some for sale. Nothing like the Skyline, however.

They are very rude but for us in the UK we don't have much option. In London they are the only decent Herpa 1:500 retailer. They used to have another store in Stains not far away but it shut down a few years back now. The man in that store was much more friendly.
We need more shops like HKG has! I still prefer to buy from www.toymaxco.cc than the LHR shop.

I have been doing business as a customer and have known the owner of Collectors Aircraft Models for 25 plus years...He absolutely could care less about the customers unless they are prepared to spend thousands...They do virtually no business in their store other then the exclusive models that they are the sole provider of...In addition they do a lot of business with Middle East customers with some very deep pockets..That is the bulk of their business...The general consensus is they have no time for the average collector who wants to spend 300.00 U.S. or less...If you are looking for exclusitivty in 200 scale and larger then they have it and charge hefty for it too...
Try Aviation Retail Direct right up the street and their other store about 20 minutes from Heathrow...Much nicer and much realistic....

CALRAMPER and I went to this store last Friday and agree that they are way overpriced and not very friendly. I won't say they were unfriendly. They would have had to acknowledge my existence to make an unfriendly remark!

BTW. if you take the 222 bus next to the park inn to Hounslow, step out in West-Drayton train station, walk past the bridge and turn right, TAHS is more for the plastic modeler but the collection is well worth the visit!
